Just like they you to “dance like no one’s watching”, it’s probably time to write like no one’s reading. For me, that opportunity presents with a brand new website that’s at least six months away from being shared with anyone. It’s a rare opporunity to merge what feels like an online diary with what anyone can click and read whenever they choose.
For so many years, I’ve wanted a place to pull my professional life together with my many passions: music, writing, education, research, technology, travel, and wellbeing. The challenge has been to think of a key message that binds everything together. For some, finding the one or two things about which to be passionate creates a more coherent message. For so many others, though, trying to present who you are to the world is either about picking the a preferred snapshot to post on social media or simply being lost for words about how to adequately contain everything that you are.
For many years, I maintained separate websites for musical projects (hello, MySpace, has it been that long?!), travel, and education. Like most, my professional and social worlds are splintered into profile pages, blog posts, tagged photos, and tweets. For all that’s out there—much of it beyond my control—what I’ve really wanted is that space to call my own. I feel like I want to open the URL bar type the “dot” and then just leave a huge space to be, well, me.
So in addition to creating a personal website to document my work in various creeds and colours, I’m creating this blog, . [space] to pull together everything that I find fascinating in the world and want to share with others.
Having blogged for nearly fifteen years, I’m exceptionally grateful for the friends, family, colleagues, and strangers who take a few minutes out of their busy days to read my thoughts. Most of all, I dream about a world where thoughts are free to resonate, where conversations can continue, and nothing’s final.
